Migrating a 32-bit Tomcat 6 system to a 64-bit system

The only difference between the Tomcat 32bit and 64bit downloads is 2 files.
The files in question are tomcat6.exe and tcnative-1.dll

Simply replacing these 2 files in the tomcat/bin directory, will avoid having to rename and copy the tomcat installation as per the instructions.

I totally agree. These 2 files represent the only difference between 32-bit and 64-bit Tomcat, and this is true for Tomcat Versions 6 and 7.

I only found out recently, having upgraded to 64 bit and Google'd the upgrade path in advance of doing it

Here's the summary of the process:

To take advantage of 64-bit technology, you need to use 64-bit java and also 64-bit Tomcat.

Java
Download 64-bit jre 6 or jre 7 as appropriate (Ebase comes with 32-bit jre 6).
Replace the 2 jre folders shipped with Ebase:

ebaseXi\jre
ebaseXi\UfsClient\jre (only if Ebase client also runs on a 64-bit machine)


Tomcat
Download the required 64-bit tomcat from http://tomcat.apache.org (Ebase comes with 32-bit Tomcat 7)

Copy the following 2 files from the downloaded 64-bit Tomcat\bin folder to the current Tomcat\bin folder, overwriting files by the same names:

tomcat7.exe
tcnative-1.dll


That's it.
