Tutorial Error Message #3

In tutorial: Building a data entry form
Part 1: Building a simple form

21. At the moment the field labels Nominee, Award, Reasons etc are quite a long way from their corresponding data entry boxes, so we will move them closer together. Click on the About the nomination text (or click on Group Panel Control GROUPPANEL1 in the Outline View) to select the first Group Control. In the Properties View, you will see that the Layout type property is set to Field Grid – with this layout all child controls are displayed in a table with each control on a new line. Selecting the control displays a yellow box above the control and in this box there are two slider icons which can be used to change the table column widths used in the layout. Drag the first slider icon to the left to change the width of the label column. Repeat this exercise for the second Group Panel Control.

I have the following comments referencing the part in bold italics:

1. In regards to "with this layout..line", where should we be looking? When you say TABLE, I am expecting to see a table pop up but I don't see a table. I just see the fields in the form.

2. In regards to "Selecting the control", what control?

3. In regards to "Yellow Box", I never got a yellow box to appear.

This being said, I did have two tiny upside down triangles that seemed to be sliders, and I did change the column sizes. However, I was looking for a separate table, not the fields on the form, and I was looking for yellow.

Thanks

Joe,

You seem to have got it working, so that's good. I'm not sure why you didn't see the yellow box - actually it's a pale yellow. I can't find a circumstance when this doesn't appear but it might have something to do with your local configuration. "Table" means tabular layout i.e. with rows and columns, but no borders.

Keep the comments coming.

Pale Yellow Box

I can go to the trouble of a step by step print screen if you would like.

Maybe you could post a print screen of your yellow box as well.

The yellow really threw me off because I was wondering how could I miss that?

However, I am not afraid/worried about poking around and proceeding. During this evaluation, it is actually good to come across a few mistakes. Your solutions point out areas I need to be careful of, and give me an idea of how responsive the ebase forum community is. So far, so good, but then again my errors have not been monumental.

Regarding the tutorial, rather than eliminate the mistakes, you might want to INCLUDE them in the tutorial, and include the solutions to recover from them. THAT way, when we are on our own and encounter an error message, we have some experience as to where to look and what to look for. Heck, include some of the "common" mistakes. The tutorials are extensive. I imagine there is an extensive list of common mistakes developers make.
