Changing default max length validator

#1

Postby eddparsons » Tue Nov 03, 2015 10:15 am

Is it possible to change the default max length validator for Character fields? 255 is often not long enough and I would prefer a much larger value by default that I only have to change if I want to specify a smaller max length.

Thanks,
Edd

Edd,

This is not one of the parameters that we have externalised. However, it is technically possible, just a bit difficult. The value of 255 is contained within the MAX_LENGTH field validator in file sysConfig.xml which is contained within the ufs.jar file in package com.ebasetech.ufs.kernel. To change this you need to un-jar the ufs.jar file, edit the file, then re-jar it. And you would need to repeat this each time you upgrade the Ebase Xi system. Might not be worth the effort.

Thanks Jon, that's great.

5 minutes of my time every upgrade is definitely worth it for me, as opposed to users spending an hour filling in a form and then being unable to submit it because I've forgotten to increase the character limit.

Thanks again,
Edd
