Guidance on ebase DBs

#1

Postby ccc_ar » Wed Mar 20, 2013 9:49 am

A. I want to create an Ebase DB with several tables and an index. Can someone point me to a link where there are simple notes/tutorial on how to go about this.

Once created, I will then want to link that DB for use in my form.

What I would like to do is have fields on a form that are then validated once the submit button is pressed. i.e. some fields will be combined, capitalised, formulaes applied, etc. This I can do.

B. I then want to access the DB I have created and populate the fields via a script (using javascript). Some simple guidance/example on how to do this would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

A: Steps to create and connect a database to Ebase Xi:

1. Create the database and any tables, indexes etc using the database provider's tools. Ebase Xi can help with creating tables but most people do this using the DB tools.

2. Create a Database Connection in the Ebase designer using the Database Connection wizard on the Tools menu.

3. Once you have the connection, you're off and running and you can read/write data to/from the database. The first step is usually to import the table structures from the database - there's a wizard to help with this available from the Database Connection editor.

B. I suggest you do some of the tutorials. From the designer Help -> Help Index -> Tutorials or Help -> Getting Started -> Databases and working with tables.

Regards
Jon

Thank you.

I can work from here. I had thought that ebase had its own bespoke DB system built in that could be used. We will use MS SQL so will create the DB environment in that and connect it in.
