Windows inability to cope with long filenames

Has anyone found a way to take a complete copy of an Ebase installation without Windows complaining about the "Destination Path" being too long.

I have tried using xcopy in the hope that this would by-pass the issue, but it didn't.

Alternatively is there a way to reduce the length of these problem filenames/paths which all exist in the "transport_files" directory, as I guess it would be unlikely for Microsoft to provide a solution

Hi Neil,

I just did this myself and had problems with long filenames.

So I got around this by copying my Ebase folder I wanted to copy into the C:\ drive (Could be root of another drive)

Then I renamed that project and copied it back to the location I originally copied it from..

e.g

C:\AppServers\EbaseInstallations\EbaseXi_4.3

Copied EbaseXi_4.3 folder to C:\EbaseXi_4.3

renamed C:\EbaseXi_4.3 to EbaseXi_5.0

Copied this back again to:
C:\AppServers\EbaseInstallations\EbaseXi_5.0

I hope this helps.

Hi Steve,
I also found a solution using robocopy:

robocopy /s /e D:\Ebase\capita-ebase-test D:\Ebase\capita-ebase-test.30.09.2015

A command that is well worth exploring.

You can also use it to delete files with long file names using:
mkdir empty_dir
robocopy empty_dir D:\Ebase\dbc-ebase-internal.29.09.2015\ /s /mir

Thanks for replying
