Stopping separate tomcats on the same server

#1

Postby nftfi » Mon Oct 08, 2007 10:43 am

Is there anybody out there with any knowledge of Tomcat who can help me?

We are running two separate tomcats on the same server and everything seems to work fine until we try to stop one of the servers, if we run the stop.sh script both servers are stopped.

We have changed the server shutdown port as per instructions, but I can't work out why this is still happening.

Can anybody suggest anything?

Thanks

Can you please post the contents of the stop.sh file?
(please put the contents inside "Quote" tags when posting)

Do you know did you got the stop.sh file from? Currently we ship a 'ufs' and 'start.sh' file.

The contents of the Stop.sh file are as follows

"#!/bin/sh
JAVA_HOME='/opt/j2sdk1.4.2_05'
JAVA_HOME_BIN='/usr/lib/j2sdk1.4.2_05/bin'
JAVA_OPTS='-Xmx512m'
CATALINA_HOME='/home/ufs_dev/UfsServer/tomcat'
DISPLAY=127.0.0.1
JAVA_HOME JAVA_HOME_BIN JAVA_OPTS JAVA_TRANSPORT JAVA_ADDRESS CATALINA_HOME DISPLAY

cd /usr/lib/ufs_dev/UfsServer/tomcat/bin
./shutdown.sh
cd /usr/lib/ufs_dev/UfsServer"

We created this file by copying th start file and changing the command to run startup.sh to run shutdown.sh instead.

Can you confirm that you have two server.xml files, one for each Tomcat instance, and that you have changed the port numbers including the shutdown port number?

Also, confirm that the paths in the two stop.sh files point to separate instances of Tomcat.

Yes, thats right, I have changed the shutdown port to a different port in the second server.xml file, and the paths point to two separate instances.

Are you still having problems with this?

This should work fine as long as you have different port numbers in the server.xml file for both your instances of Tomcat, and you have the correct paths in your stop.sh.

I noticed that in your stop script you are referencing a different path to your shutdown.sh script than that of your CATALINA HOME. Is this intentional?

Please double check all port numbers and paths. I can't see what else it could be.

I have tested this setup here and stopping one instance of Tomcat does not affect the other.

I am still having a problem with this, I have checked and double checked the paths and ports, although I will continue to do so today in the hope of finally getting to the bottom of the problem.

I have changed the path to which you reffered being different and it has not made any change to the problem.

Is it okay for both tomcat servers to use the same java folder, I assumed it would be okay, but I'm clutching at straws now and checking everything!

Thanks for your help.

Yes, it is ok for both instances of Tomcat to use the same Java.
