We have just finished speaking with Oracle regarding the new Java licensing model coming into place Janurary 2019, can you confirm that the Java used within the Verj.io product will be licensed in accordance with the new licensing model, and that we do not have to do anything to address this license requirement within DBC.

Yes, I can confirm that your Java will be appropriately licensed and that you do not need to take any actions to ensure this.

The changes apply to Java 8 only and mean that from January 2019 any new upgrades to Java 8 will be chargeable. You can continue to use your current Java version without problem.

We are planning to ship Java 11 with the next Verj.io release which will be V5.5 - before January 2019. It will then be our responsibility to ensure that all Java features that we ship are correctly licensed.

In the circumstance that you cannot upgrade to V5.5 before January 2019, you can continue to use the Java 8 or earlier version you are currently using without problem. But if you wanted to upgrade this to the latest available Java 8 for any reason this would mean paying Oracle a small licence fee.

Thanks for the update Jon, thus far you are the only company we deal with that even had a clue about this and a plan to address it.
