Windows 7 / IIS 7.5 Authentication with Tomcat Connector

I have installed eBase on a new Windows 7 PC running IIS 7.5 and have had problems trying to setup the Tomcat isapi connector using Windows Authentication, which is used to populate the $USER variable. It was not immediately obvious what the problems were and internet searches didn't find an obvious solution.

To enable the directory security options, which are available in IIS6, under IIS 7.5 you need to do the following :-

Under Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off -> Internet Information Services -> World Wide Web Services -> Security -> Windows Authentication , ensure this option is ticked.

Under Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off -> Internet Information Services -> World Wide Web Services -> Application Development Features -> ISAPI Extensions, enusre this option is ticked.

Now under Internet Information Services Manager, highlight the machine name under connections.

Open the feature for IIS -> Authentication and then enable the Windows Authentication option, which you have just installed.

Restart IIS to pick up the changes.

You are now in a position to install the Tomcat connector.

I've then followed the guide on how to setup the Tomcat connector in Windows 7 at the IISAdmin site :- http://www.iisadmin.co.uk/?p=72

Thought this would be a useful tip for others !
