v5 service pack

#1

Postby Steve James » Tue Mar 08, 2016 11:40 am

Hi can you advise when the next service pack is due?

Also as part of this can you confirm (or otherwise) whether the following has made it in?

1 - the ability to ignore version control files/folders when displaying the tree / searching the workspace (335691)

2 - the ability to turn off the automatic refresh of the tree/data dictionary every time a Designer navigates back to the designer. It is a great feature to allow file based changes to be picked up in the designer but 99% of the time a form designer is navigating to a browser to test changes rather than making file based changes.
I played with a full copy of our repository earlier today and it took more than 1 minute to refresh the tree (ouch).

At the moment we're only playing with v5.0.1 and are not planning to upgrade. It would be good to really get to grips with v5 as I recon it will give significant productivity improvements.

Thanks

We are targeting the end of March for the next V5 service pack (V5.0.2).

1. Yes, this is included

2. Is being investigated. We're not too sure what the result will be at the moment.

Thanks Jon, they are pretty critical especially when working on large workspaces.

Steve,

How many files do you have in the workspace?

Hi c.13k

That's our full current development repository (in v5.0.1 format).

A little more information.

Even a partial workspace still requires the "Shared" project. Our Shared project contains c.2300 files/folders and with .svn it's up to c.4600.

The designer including .svn folders is certainly causing a lot of the delay.

Thanks

Regarding question 2 above "the ability to turn off the automatic refresh of the tree/data dictionary every time a Designer navigates back to the designer", V5.1 has been changed so that the refresh of the tree only occurs if there are changes to the file system. The initial building of the tree from the workspace has also been made faster.

We are trying to avoid adding an option to put this under the control of the developer e.g. a refresh tree option. The problem with this approach as that it could lead to inaccuracies in the data dictionary which in turn could lead to errors in refactoring operations.

Hi Jon,

When can we expect V5.1? Is this the upcomming release or will there be a service pack for V5.0?
We are planning to start the upgrade from 4.5 on the server with our internal applications and I would like to have the fixes before we start testing.

The server that runs our public forms is running V5 for some weeks no, without any problems, but testing/fixing the forms before we could do the upgrade took quite some time. Hopefully, this will be a bit less with these fixes in place.

Regards,

David

V5.1 should be released today, I'll add a post on this forum when it happens. This contains both fixes for problems reported against V5.0 plus some new functionality (mostly calling REST web services). So there won't be a separate service pack for V5.0. Originally this new release was going to be V5.0.2 but we changed it to V5.0 because of the new functionality.
