deploy on version 5 and cvs setup

Hi,

My question regarding to deployment for version 5:

are there more things to done by deployment action other than copying files from designer workspace to target server workspace?

If there is nothing else than coping files over to server workspace, then can we just manually copy files to server workspace will it work?

We are thinking of setup the server side workspace as a cvs copy. after we commit tested changes to CVS, we can push the file from CVS server directly to the server workspace. then everything is done no deployment action on designer is required.

Are may understanding correct?

Thanks,
Xiaoli

You can manually copy the project from the workspace folder to the server although I find it easier to deploy it from a development workstation

Hi xren,

Deployment is used as a convenient way to transfer your workspace files and server configuration files from your designer environment to your Ebase server.

Deployment allows you to select the entities and/or projects and include any associated files with the selected items (resources, templates, css, databases etc...) . The deployment transfers the files and puts them in the appropriate place for you without having to worry about copying the files into the right locations and transferring server config files (e.g database) associated with the deployment.

You can also checkout from CVS or copy directly into your workspace providing the path is correct. This will work also. If you manually copy the files like this you will need to make sure you have configured any required database and email accounts on the server also.

Hope this helps

Steve
